Lake Whetstone Boating

Enjoy Lake Whetstone by renting boats at 18701 Montgomery Village Avenue from May 23 until Aug. 29. MVF’s South Dock Boat House will be open for boat rentals from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturdays throughout the summer. Boat rentals begin at 9 a.m., with last rentals launched between 12 and 12:30 p.m. A valid ID is required to rent a boat at resident rates. Rental cost for canoes, kayaks and rowboats is $7 per hour, and paddleboats are $6 per half-hour for Village residents. Non-residents may rent boats for an additional $3 per rental. Renters must be 16 years old or older to rent a boat, unless accompanied by an adult. Privately owned boats meeting MVF guidelines can be used on Lake Whetstone with the purchase of an annual MVF Identification Sticker, which is available at the MVF Office.

Enjoy fishing, boating, jogging and picnicking (no grilling or alcoholic beverages permitted) from 7 a.m. until the area closes one-half hour after sunset. Maryland State Fishing Regulations are in effect for all MVF lakes and ponds. Fishing licenses are available HERE. Children 15 years old and younger do not need a license to fish.

Lake Whetstone Boat ID Stickers

Village residents may rent boat racks (located at Lake Whetstone) from MVF to store their boats. MVF rents them on a first-come, first-served basis. The rental period runs from April 1, 2026 to March 31, 2027. You must also purchase a Lake Whetstone 2026 ID sticker for any boat stored on the rack. You can register to rent boat racks at the MVF Office, 10120 Apple Ridge Road.

Residents who have privately owned boats that meet MVF guidelines may use Lake Whetstone if they purchase a 2026 MVF Identification Sticker. You can purchase stickers during normal business hours at the MVF Office or the Lake Whetstone Dock.

Rack Rental: $35 per year

Lake Whetstone ID Sticker: $10 per year.
