WSSC Water is urging customers to conserve water after the Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments (COG) declared a regional Drought Watch on June 3. The Watch was issued in response to unusually dry conditions, and the regional designation applies to residents across the District of Columbia, Maryland, and Northern Virginia. WSSC Water is encouraging voluntary conservation to help protect the region’s water supply.

Wise Water Use Tips

  • Check hoses and connections for leaks.
  • Limit outdoor water play and reuse water when possible.
  • Consider public pools and water parks instead of filling personal pools or using sprinklers for recreation.
  • Turn off the faucet while shaving or brushing your teeth.
  • Install WaterSense-labeled showerheads.
  • Check the toilet for leaks and replace worn-out flappers.
  • Choose showers over baths.
  • Run full dishwasher loads.
  • Fix leaky faucets.
