Theater Pond to undergo renovations

Theatre-Pond-WEB

Starting in June, Theater Pond, located just below the dam on Montgomery Village Avenue, will undergo renovations. These improvements are necessary to maintain the long-term safety, function, and environmental health of the pond and dam. The project will bring the dam up to current safety standards and remove sediment that has accumulated in the pond. The work is expected to continue through the winter.

In general, the project includes the following:

  • Removal of trees on the dam embankment to comply with current dam safety requirements
  • Dredging of the pond
  • Installation of riprap along the creek side of the dam to stabilize the area
  • Correction of the dam embankment slope that has eroded over time
  • Installation of a new pond control structure to meet current safety standards.

During the project, the contractor, Environmental Quality Resources, LLC, will install orange safety fencing around the pond work area to protect the public. There may be times when the pathway from the entrance gate near Montgomery Village Avenue to the Gordon Bowie Music Pavilion will be temporarily closed for truck access and safety reasons. The path is expected to remain open during evenings and weekends whenever possible.

Residents should expect increased traffic, construction activity, and noise in the area during normal weekday working hours. The contractor will work to minimize disruptions whenever possible. We appreciate your patience and cooperation as we complete these important improvements for the safety and long-term preservation of Theater Pond.
