Planning to install a patio
Summer is the perfect time to create an outdoor space for entertaining, dining, or simply relaxing with family and friends. If you're planning to install a new patio, remember that approval from the Montgomery Village Foundation Architectural Review Board (ARB) is required before any work begins.
Patios should be designed to complement your home and the surrounding landscape. The ARB recommends materials such as:
- Brick
- Natural stone (flagstone or fieldstone)
- Concrete pavers
- Brushed, exposed aggregate, or stamped concrete finishes
Natural, earth-tone colors are encouraged to help the patio blend harmoniously with the property's landscape.
What to Include with Your Application
To help ensure a smooth review process, please submit the following:
- Completed and signed Property Improvement Request (PIR) application
- Property plat showing the location of the proposed patio
- Scaled drawing showing dimensions and layout
- Section drawing of the patio includes steps or changes in grade
- Photos or manufacturer information for the proposed materials
*Please Note: Material samples may be requested and may be dropped off at the MVF Office.
Review Schedule
To be considered for the same week's Review meeting, complete applications must be received no later than Tuesday at 5 p.m. (close of business).
Applications that include all required information are prepared in a review packet and presented for a decision during the Thursday meeting. Incomplete applications may be delayed until all requested information has been received.
Submitting a complete application helps ensure a timely review and avoids unnecessary delays in your project.
