MCDOT update on Montgomery Village Avenue patching and overlay project
As part of its plan to upgrade intersections of Montgomery Village Avenue from Midcounty Highway to Wightman Road, aimed at improving pedestrian safety, Montgomery County Department of Transportation (MCDOT) has provided an update on the final phase, to include patching, overlay and paving of Montgomery Village Avenue.
Patching and overlay is scheduled to start on Monday, April 6 and will take 3 to 4 weeks to complete, weather and other operational requirements permitting. Work hours will be between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m., Monday through Friday.
The paving phase will commence on Sunday, May 3 and will operate as a nighttime work phase with work hours from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m., Monday through Friday. The entire project is expected to take approximately 4 to 6 weeks to complete, pending any weather delays.
According to MCDOT, the county right-of-way near homes and businesses may be disturbed by the planned project improvements. MCDOT will keep traffic impacts to a minimum. Following the completion of the project, all disturbed areas within the county right-of-way will be restored as appropriate.

Residents may recall that representatives from MCDOT held a community meeting on March 27, 2025 and reviewed the plan again before the April 24, 2025 Montgomery Village Foundation (MVF) Board of Directors meeting, noting the improvements would include continental crossings/crosswalk markings; upgrading ADA access; median extensions to allow for safer crossing; addition of Pedestrian Hybrid Beacons at key intersections; and lane restriping to conform to the Complete Streets Design Guide, adding additional shoulder buffer near the existing sidewalks.
