Speed Cameras in the Village: know the rules and where they are

If you’re driving around the Village, chances are you will see an automated speed enforcement camera or two on your drive. Montgomery Village and the areas just beyond the community have over 20 cameras that enforce speed limits. There are currently 462 speed camera locations in Montgomery County.

Keep in mind that Maryland speed cameras are legally set to issue citations only when a vehicle travels 12 mph or more over the posted speed limit. Driving at the posted speed limit is important for keeping streets safe for pedestrians, other drivers, and yourself.

The following speed cameras are located in and very close to Montgomery Village*:

Montgomery Village Ave near Stewartown Road (Southbound)
Montgomery Village Ave between Stewartown Road and Greenside Terrace (Northbound)
Montgomery Village Ave next to Lake Whetstone (North and Southbound)
Montgomery Village Ave near intersection with Walkers Choice Road (Southbound)
Montgomery Village Ave near North Creek Lake/Aspenwood Lane (Southbound)
Montgomery Village Ave near intersection with Apple Ridge Rd (North and Southbound)

Centerway Road near Thomas Farm Road (Eastbound)

*Locations of speed cameras are subject to change, be sure to check the county map. The figure in the first paragraph takes into account cameras located in Gaithersburg that are close to Montgomery Village.

Beginning in October 2025, Maryland changed automated speed camera fines from a flat $40 (for 12+ mph over) to graduated fines based on how far over the limit a driver is.

Current fines are as follows:
12–15 mph over: $40
16–19 mph over: $70
20–29 mph over: $120
30–39 mph over: $230
40+ mph over: $425

Maryland law states that the types of roadways that can be monitored by a speed camera are:

• a residential road with a speed limit of 35 miles per hour or less
• a school zone
• specific state highways or interstate portions

Automated enforcement has been implemented where data show speeding and serious crashes.
