We are celebrating this milestone at our 60th Anniversary Kickoff Celebration on our actual anniversary from 2 to 5 p.m. at Lake Marion Community Center, 8821 East Village Avenue. This celebration will be during our MVF Recreation and Parks Department Open House.
PASSPORT JOURNEY
We invite residents to join us for a slice of anniversary cake and help us officially launch our first-of-its-kind Passport Journey. Be sure to arrive early – the first 400 attendees will receive a plastic pouch with a custom lanyard to hold their official passport. You’ll earn your first validation sticker at the kickoff and can collect six additional bonus validations by participating in open house activities, an MV trivia game and instructor-led demonstrations.

From February through November, your Passport Journey will take you across the Village as you collect stickers and stamps by participating in MVF programs, activities and special events. Complete 60 validations to earn a distinctive 60th Anniversary Prize, awarded at the Holiday Market on Saturday, Nov. 21. Get ready for 10 months of community fun and aim for the ultimate year-end prize!
DIGITAL MEMORY WALL
Another way we’re celebrating the 60th Anniversary is through our MV 60th Anniversary Memory Wall: Share Your Memories. Launching in March, this yearlong digital memory wall invites you to share memorable photos, videos and stories from your own life across the months, years and decades that you and your family have lived in Montgomery Village. The Memory Wall will live on the MVF website starting in March for everyone to explore and enjoy. It’s a simple way to reminisce, connect with neighbors, and showcase the many moments over the last 60 years that make our community one of a kind. Get ready to help us tell the story of Montgomery Village one memory at a time!
HOW WE GOT TO 60 YEARS
It all began in the early 1960s, when a residential developer, Kettler Brothers Inc., decided to build a new town on the old Walker farm. The Kettler brothers acquired several adjacent farms and began planning for a large-scale residential community. They envisioned the spring-fed stream becoming a lake, the rich soil producing thousands of new trees, and the growing number of area families reaping the benefits of a good life. This new community would be more than a collection of houses in subdivisions; it would be a new kind of urban development that would provide a total living environment for residents. They broke ground on Feb. 28, 1966.
Fast-forward to today, Montgomery Village is now home to more than 40,000 residents from different racial, cultural, ethnic, religious and socioeconomic backgrounds. All residents are encouraged to stay connected by participating in our community events and cultural initiatives, and by enjoying health and wellness through our recreation activities. By valuing our differences, we foster mutual respect, understanding and collaboration so that Montgomery Village remains a thriving and inclusive environment for the many families and individuals who call Montgomery Village home.
Mongomery Village Foundation (MVF) geared up for the 60th Anniversary by launching a logo design contest last summer, inviting residents to design a commemorative 60-year logo. Resident Chris Mead submitted the winning concept, and MVF thanks him and all participants for their creativity. MVF Senior Graphic Designer Maria Pullifrone refined the design into our official MV 60th Anniversary logo, which will appear on several cherished giveaways this year.
