The Montgomery County Office of Grants Management (OGM) is seeking qualified individuals with relevant experience to review and evaluate applications submitted to the county’s various competitive grants programs for fiscal years 2024 and 2025. Reviewers will undergo mandatory training, assess programs on a rolling basis throughout the year and will be compensated for their time.
In November, the water level at Lake Marion was lowered following a partial collapse of one of the toe drains in the dam. This issue was identified during an inspection conducted by Montgomery County, which is responsible for the structural maintenance of the pond. The lowered water level has exposed a sediment delta on the side of the lake closest to the Lake Marion Community Center.
At the October 26 Montgomery Village Foundation (MVF) Board of Directors meeting, the Board approved the MVF Recreation and Parks Department’s Strategic Plan called, “MV: A More Active Tomorrow.” The department updated strategic priorities for its core provisions, which include aquatics, facilities, parks and programming.
Montgomery County Department of Permitting Services (DPS) has improved its Residential Fast Track program and its Apply Online portal, creating changes that could lead to permits on some eligible projects, such as single-level decks and fences, being approved in days instead of weeks as long as submitted applications have complete information.
On Sept. 26, representatives from Evergreen Investment Company once again shared a proposal with the community for a seven-story apartment complex for the second parcel of the Lidl property— known as Lot 37—adjacent to the entrance to the Whetstone community. This in-person pre-submission meeting came two weeks after first sharing the same plan at the Whetstone Homes Corporation (WHC) meeting; nearly 120 residents attended each meeting.
After a long hiatus, representatives from Evergreen recently contacted the MVF Office to resume discussion with the community regarding their plan for an apartment complex on Lot 37, the parcel of land adjacent to Lidl and the Whetstone Drive/Montgomery Village Avenue entrance to the Whetstone community.
After a very successful sales launch in 2021, Ryan Homes is making great progress in building and delivering new homes at Bloom Montgomery Village. Areas 4 and 5 (Magnolia and Lilac) are complete and all homes occupied. Areas 3B (Willow) and 6B (Juniper) are also close to 100% occupied. On the west side of Montgomery Village Avenue, Area 1 (Hawthorne) is currently under construction, with a number of units already completed and occupied. Finally, and after much anticipation, the new David B. Humpton Park had its Grand Opening at the end of May.

As the warm summer sun graces Montgomery Village, a dedicated group of young individuals has been working tirelessly to enhance the beauty and environmental health of the community. The Montgomery Village Conservation Corps, led by crew leader Aaron Poawui, has been making a significant impact on various projects throughout the Village, leaving a lasting impression on both residents and visitors alike.
