On Saturday, May 31, Montgomery County’s African American Health Program (AAHP) will host its 11th Annual Community Day at the Bioscience Education Center on the Germantown campus of Montgomery College, 20200 Observation Drive. Running from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., this family-friendly event is free to attend and open to all residents of Montgomery County.

“Take Control of Your Health and Wellness–Prioritize You and Be Empowered,” sets the tone for a day dedicated to promoting health equity and empowering individuals to make informed health decisions. The event focuses on chronic illnesses that disproportionately affect African American communities and aligns with the broader goals of Mental Health Awareness Month.

The event promises a vibrant mix of activities, resources and educational opportunities for attendees of all ages:

  • Health Screenings and Exhibits: Guests will have access to a range of free health services, including screenings that can help identify common but often undiagnosed conditions.
  • Living Well Lounge: There will be a dedicated space focused on mental health, with resources and support to foster emotional well-being.
  • Youth Zone: Children and teens ages 5 to 17 can engage in interactive, age-appropriate programming while learning about healthy living.
  • Entertainment and Activities: From live music by a DJ and line dancing jams to cooking demos and fun giveaways, there is something for everyone.
  • Blood Drive: A mobile unit will be on site for those who want to give back through blood donation.
  • Food and Refreshments: Complimentary snacks and drinks will be available throughout the day.

Start the day early with a pre-event walk at 8 a.m., hosted in collaboration with GirlTREK, a national wellness movement that uses walking as a tool to heal and empower Black communities.

Although the event is free, advance registration is required for all participants, including children. To register, visit the AAHP Community Day 2025 website or register directly via the Eventbrite website.
