Home to Home gives pets a smoother transition into a new home

There is an easier way to connect county families that need to rehome their pets. The Montgomery County Animal Services and Adoption Center (MCASAC) has added an interactive, free tool called Home To Home. The Home To Home website is for owners that need to surrender their pets permanently or short term, and includes dogs, cats and other animals. This tool allows local shelters to focus on animals with no other options, such as abused and neglected animals and lost pets. Home To Home also aims to alleviate the need for some pets to be surrendered to the shelter at all.

Those seeking to rehome their animals can register on the site and fill out a brief profile, upload a picture and include important information. The website also gives new owners the ability to search for animals, and opens the line of communication directly with the former owners in case they need additional information.

This service is completely free and users are not allowed to exchange money, including rehome fees, boarding fees or other expenses related to the animals. MCASAC staff monitor the site to ensure rules are followed and the wellbeing of the animal is always the priority.  Home To Home pet postings will be promoted on MCASAC's Facebook page to help generate interest. The animals are also listed on the shelter’s website under “Pets Available in the Community”.

Home To Home is a national program that is used among shelters and rescue organization across the United States. Visit the Home To Home website at home-home.org.
