Seniors in Action

The Montgomery Village Foundation offers a full roster of Monday through Friday activities at Stedwick Community Center, 10401 Stedwick Road, for those 55 and older.  

Keep up-to-date with Seniors in Action activities any of these ways: drop by one of our Wednesday or Thursday social gatherings; ask a staff member or check our bulletin board for specifics; check updates in every issue of the Montgomery Village News; call Alex Alcon at 240-243-2314; or e-mail aalcon@mvf.org

Interested in helping us plan future activities and widen our membership? Seniors in Action members take an active role in activity planning by working with MVF Recreation Specialist Alex Alcon, who directs the seniors program. New members are welcome to join our outreach and planning team.

Weekly Activities

Mondays:

  • SIA Social Games - 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
    Enjoy a variety of card and board games, conversation and refreshments.
  • Book Discussion Group - 10 to 11 a.m. 
    Third Monday of each month
  • Arts & Crafts - 10 a.m. to noon
    Work side-by-side with other members while you explore your creative side.
  • Pickleball Group - 10 a.m. to noon
    Join pickleball enthusiasts for fun on the coupr, combining tennis, badminton and ping-pong.

Tuesdays:

  • Light Cardio Workout - 9 to 10 a.m. 
    Work out with exercise videos, light resistance bands and weights
  • Flow-Motion - 11:30 a.m. to 12:15 p.m.
    Charo will lead participants through mindful movements to strengthen muscles, help balance, ease low back pain and more.

Wednesdays:

  • SIA Social Games - 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
    Enjoy a variety of card and board games, conversation and refreshments.
  • Last Wednesday of the month, join us for our Potluck lunch.

Thursdays:

  • Light Cardio Workout - 9 to 10 a.m. 
  • Pickleball Group - 10 a.m. to noon
    Join pickleball enthusiasts for fun on the court, combining tennis, badminton and ping-pong.
  • Total Body Tune-up - 11:30 a.m. to 12:15 p.m.
    Fun and easy sitting or standing movements for toning and stretching.

Fridays:

  • Bingo and Brown Bag Lunch - Noon to 2:30 p.m.
    Second Friday of each month - bring a lunch, beverages provided.

    Celebrating winter birthdays of our members!
Field Trips
  • Fall Field Trip to Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center - Monday, Sept. 24
    Depart Stedwick CC at 9 a.m.; Depart museum at 2 p.m.
    The Udvar-Hazy Center in Chantilly, VA is the companion facility to the Air and Space Museum on the National Mall in Washington, DC.
    $5/Member, $25/Non-member

Fitness Opportunities

Light Cardio Workout - Tuesdays and Thursday, 9 to 10 a.m.
Step by step you can get in shape with Seniors in Action! Members will work out with exercise videos, light resistance bands and weights, led by exercise enthusiasts and staff. Don’t hesitate to walk yourself to health.

Total Body Tune-up - Thursdays, 11:30 a.m. to 12:15 p.m.
Fun, easy to follow, seated and standing movement emphasizes muscle toning, light cardiovascular work and stretching.

Flow-Motion - Tuesdays, 11:30 a.m. to 12:15 a.m.
Seated Tai Chi
Get strong inside and out with gentle, soothing, controlled motions designed to enhance one's body and spirit.
 

Directions

All Seniors in Action activities take place at Stedwick Community Center, 10401 Stedwick Road, unless otherwise noted.

From Montgomery Village Avenue, make either a right or left (depending on direction travelling) onto Stedwick Road. Cross over Watkins Mill Road. Stedwick Community Center is on the right, past the Montgomery Village Middle School athletic fields.
