Seniors in Action

Seniors in Action is back with cool summertime fun for adults 55 and over! Meet other 55+ neighbors and friends four days each week to enjoy friendly games, conversation, fitness and crafts! Don't miss your opportunity to join! All meetings take place at Stedwick Community Center, 10401 Stedwick Road, for those 55 and older.

Weekly Activities

Mondays:

  • Arts & Crafts - 10 a.m. to noon
    Work side-by-side with other members while you explore your creative side.
  • SiA Social Games - 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
    Enjoy a variety of card and board games, conversation and refreshments.
  • Book Discussion Group - 10 to 11 a.m. 
    Summer book club will only meet third Monday in August.

Tuesdays:

  • Seated Tai Chi - 11:30 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. 
    One of our most popular programs offered at Seniors in Action! Join instructor Marcy as she takes you through the meditative movements of seated Tai Chi.

Wednesdays:

  • Light Cardio Workout - 9 to 10 a.m. 
    Get active and stay healthy by working up a sweat. Participants will work out and be guided through interactive exercise videos using light resistance bands and weights.SIA Social Games - 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
  • SiA Social Games - 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
    Come play games and socialize with other members while enjoying refreshments. End of the month potluck luncheons will be announced on monthly calendar.

Fridays:

  • Total Body Tune Up - 9:30 to 10:15 a.m.
    Fun and easy to follow seated and standing movements to tone and stretch gently and comfortably to lively music.
  • ​Bingo and Brown Bag Lunch - 10:30 a.m. to noon
    Bring a lunch and play some bingo with your Seniors in Action friends! Members are welcome to bring friends and family to join in the fun.
    Free for members, $2 per non-member.

Field Trips

  • George Washington’s Mount Vernon -  Thursday, July 11
    George Washington’s Mount Vernon is the historic home of George and Martha Washington. Owned and operated by the Mount Vernon Ladies' Association, guests can see the historic mansion and outbuildings preserved to the year 1799, the last year of George Washington’s life. In addition, guests can visit our beautiful gardens, a working farm engaged in 18th Century agriculture, two museums, heritage breed animals and more.
    $17/Member, $27/Non-member

  • Toby’s Dinner Theatre – “Mamma Mia!” - Wednesday, Sept. 4
    Back by popular demand! A mother. A daughter. Three possible dads and a trip down the aisle you’ll never forget. Audiences around the world have fallen in love with the music and story that make “Mamma Mia!” the feel good show of our time. The magic of ABBA’s timeless hit music (”Dancing Queen,” “The Winner Takes It All “and many more) tells this story of love, laughter and friendship.

Fitness Opportunities

Light Cardio Workout - Tuesdays and Thursday, 9 to 10 a.m.
Step by step you can get in shape with Seniors in Action! Members will work out with exercise videos, light resistance bands and weights, led by exercise enthusiasts and staff. Don’t hesitate to walk yourself to health.

Total Body Tune-up - Thursdays, 11:30 a.m. to 12:15 p.m.
Fun, easy to follow, seated and standing movement emphasizes muscle toning, light cardiovascular work and stretching.

Seated Tai Chi - Tuesdays, 11:30 a.m. to 12:15 p.m.

Directions

All Seniors in Action activities take place at Stedwick Community Center, 10401 Stedwick Road, unless otherwise noted.

From Montgomery Village Avenue, make either a right or left (depending on direction travelling) onto Stedwick Road. Cross over Watkins Mill Road. Stedwick Community Center is on the right, past the Montgomery Village Middle School athletic fields.
